Project Summary
Industry Operation
Quality Cabinet Manufacturing in North Carolina
Key Technologies
Implemented a belt over roller conveyor for consistent product support and smooth flow with Hytrol Model RB Belt Conveyor.
Success Impact
Improved product stability, consistent throughput, and a simple, cost-effective system design.
Delivering consistent movement without unnecessary complexity.
In cabinet manufacturing, precision is the standard for every joint and finish. Maintaining that quality at scale requires a production line where components remain perfectly stable during transport. By prioritizing a stable conveying surface, manufacturers ensure that every piece arrives at the next workstation exactly as intended, protecting the integrity of the product while maintaining a steady, predictable flow.
Challenge: Inconsistent transport causing frequent product misalignment.
A high-quality cabinet manufacturer was looking to improve how components moved through a key part of their production process. While the products were consistent in size, they required stable handling to prevent shifting or misalignment during transport.
Their existing approach lacked consistency. Product movement was not as smooth as it needed to be, and there was a risk of parts becoming slightly misaligned as they traveled through the line. Over time, that can create downstream issues, slow production, and require additional manual correction.
Our customer didn’t need a heavy-duty system or complex accumulation. What they needed was a reliable way to move product with better support and more consistent control.
This is a common situation in manufacturing environments. Not every application calls for advanced automation. In many cases, the right solution is a well-matched conveyor that fits the product and the process.
Solution: Stabilizing production through belt-over roller conveyor.
Trace Davis, AEC’s Automation & Material Handling Specialist, worked with our customer to evaluate the application and determine the most effective approach.
The solution was a Hytrol Model RB (Roller Bed) Conveyor.
The RB is a belt-over roller conveyor, meaning the belt rides on top of the rollers and carries the product while the rollers support the belt. This design provides a stable conveying surface while reducing friction, allowing for smooth and efficient movement.
For this cabinet application, that design made a measurable difference.
Because the product rides on the belt instead of directly on rollers, each component is fully supported throughout the conveying process. That added stability helps prevent shifting, which was one of the primary concerns in the original setup.
At the same time, the RB maintains a simple and dependable mechanical design. It delivers consistent movement without introducing unnecessary complexity, making it an ideal fit for this operation.
The system was also designed to integrate cleanly into our customer’s existing workflow. One of the most important considerations in any retrofit or upgrade is how well new equipment fits into what is already in place. In this case, the RB provided that flexibility.
Result: Optimized throughput with improved component stability.
The implementation of the RB conveyor delivered immediate improvements in product handling and overall flow.
Cabinet components now move through the system with greater stability and consistency. The belt over roller design ensures that each piece remains properly supported, reducing the chance of misalignment and minimizing the need for manual adjustments.
The operation also benefits from smoother, more predictable throughput. With consistent product movement, downstream processes can operate more efficiently, helping the customer maintain production pace.
Just as important, the solution avoided overengineering the system. By selecting the right conveyor for the application, the customer achieved the performance they needed without adding unnecessary cost or complexity.
Why was the Hytrol Model RB the right choice?
Choosing the right conveyor always comes down to the application.
The Hytrol Model RB is particularly effective when product support and stability are priorities. Because the belt carries the product, it can handle items that may not convey well on standard roller systems, including flat components, smaller items, or products that need a more consistent surface.
It’s also a strong choice for light to medium-duty applications where the goal is reliable transport rather than complex accumulation.
Key advantages include:
- Stable conveying surface for improved product handling
- Smooth and consistent product movement
- Reduced risk of shifting or misalignment
- Simple, cost-effective system design
- Easy integration into existing systems
For this cabinet manufacturer, those advantages aligned perfectly with the need.
